Saturday, February 10th – Lake Palestine

The Ray Hubbard Bass Club had our first tournament of 2018 last Saturday February 10th at Lake Palestine. Weather forecasts and other issues including how may other tournaments that were going to be out there kept the field down to 23 boats. The weather was strange to be sure. Temperatures were very mild to start the morning and there was no wind. This combination brought heavy fog in the picture. Moving around was not really possible. In fact another tournament out of The Villages held their participants until 11:00. About that time the anticipated cold front arrived. Wind picked up hard from the north and the temperature dropped like a rock. Palestine is fished heavy this time of year because it seems to be a better cold water lake then most. That did not prove to be the case for our Club. Bites were very hard to come by. None of our teams weighed a 5 fish limit. When all was said and done, Bryce Glick fishing solo weighed four fish for 9.78 pounds to take the win. Josh Mulkey brought an 8.05 pound bass to the scales to take big fish honors.

Saturday & Sunday, November 11-12, 2017 – Lake Bob Sandlin & Cypress Springs

The Ray Hubbard Bass Club held our annual Club Championship on November 11-12, fishing Bob Sandlin on Saturday and Cypress Springs on Sunday. 67 members qualified to fish the Championship and we had 30 boats fish the two day event. Weather was cool and dry on Saturday and the wind picked up in the afternoon, but overall a nice day to fish. Fishing was good as 25 of the 30 boats brought a limit to the scales. Leading after Day 1 was the team of Vince Burt and Josh Mulkey who had a monster bag weighing 19.59 anchored by a 9.53 beast. Sunday on Cypress was a different story. The day started with a cold steady rain that continued most of the day. It kept everyone miserable and the fishing followed suit. Big bags and big fish were hard to come by. Coming from behind with a two day total of 27.99 to win were 2016 AOY’s Ronnie Manning and Capp Peace whose Sunday bag included a big bass of 5.58.

That’s a wrap on a VERY successful 2017 season! Thanks to all my Officers on a job well done. Thanks to all our members who came out to support our Club in all our endeavors in 2017. Our 2018 schedule will be posted very soon. Our first meeting of 2018 will be on Thursday January 11th. Our first tournament of 2018 will be on February 10th. Until then, have a great holiday season from the Ray Hubbard Bass Club!

Saturday, October 14, 2017 – Lake Texoma

The Ray Hubbard Bass Club held our ninth and last members only tournament of the season on Saturday October 14th at Lake Texoma. Very warm and very windy describe the conditions, and windy on Texoma can be dangerous. 26 boats came out to close the regular season. Fishing was tougher than expected, especially for bigger fish. In the end, Vince Burt and Mark Werner took home the win with a strong five fish limit that weighed 15.76 pounds. Jason and Lisa Bell took home big bass honors with a 4.51 largemouth.

Thank you to David Simmons for taking names and handing out the money. Thanks to Paul for taking pictures! Thanks to my partner Chris for helping with setup and tear down and hauling all this stuff with us! If you pitched in, I appreciate you! The next Club event is the RHBC 2017 Championship which will take place November 11-12 on Lake Bob Sandlin and Lake Cypress Springs. Only qualified members are invited to fish this event. It’s going to be a fun weekend. See you there!

Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 – Lake Ray Hubbard

The Ray Hubbard Bass Club held our eight members only tournament on Saturday September 23rd on our home lake, Ray Hubbard. You would think delaying the tournament two weeks as we had to, would have brought fall weather more in to play, but this was not the case. Sunny and hot were the words of the day. Catching keepers was tough for most of the 39 boats that came out to fish. When all was said and done, the Medina Brothers, Andy and Ricky cemented their AOY year by catching a limit for 15.75 pounds to take home the win. Their bag was anchored by a 7.16 toad that got big bass honors. Here are full results and pictures.

Thanks to everyone that came out to fish. Thanks to Chandlers Landing for providing a great place to do registration and weigh in. Thanks to our Tournament Directors, Robert Hitt, Paul Spann and David Mulkey and their partners who did a great job and to David Simmons for keeping the money straight and getting their long before the crack of dawn to get everyone registered. Our ninth and last regular season tournament comes up on Saturday October 14th on Lake Texoma. Registration and weigh in will take place at Highport Marina. Hope to see you there!

Saturday, August 12th, 2017 – Lake Fork

The Ray Hubbard Bass Club had our seventh members only tournament last Saturday August 12th on Lake Fork. The day dawned as a typical August Texas day. By 7:00AM, the sun was hot, the humidity was up and the breeze was non existent. 39 boats hit the water. As many had been saying the fishing was tough for almost everyone. Fork is a different tournament lake because of the slot of course so tactics and techniques were radically different. It was strange seeing almost every boat with at least one spinning rod in use. Then about 2:00, a big thunderstorm came rolling in with heavy wind and rain, lightning and thunder. It’s been a crazy summer weather wise. At the end of the day, our winners were Warren Whitaker and Jay Messersmith with a two fish stringer! One of those fish however was a 7.92 over that put them over the top and also got big bass of the event.
