Saturday, April 8th, 2017 – Lake Tawakoni
The Ray Hubbard Bass Club held our third members only tournament of 2017, last Saturday April 8th at Lake Tawakoni. The day started of chilly and breezy. Unfortunately for a change, the weather man got something right and the promised high winds arrived late morning just as was predicted. If you stayed on either side of the lake, moving around wasn’t bad, but the run across the lake at the end of the day proved treacherous. 20-30 mph winds made for huge swells and several teams (including mine) speared waves coming in and it made for a scary ride. Smartly, a bunch of our 44 teams took advantage of the rules and trailered to their area. All 44 teams made it back safely in the end with just a little equipment damage and a few lost items. When weigh in was over, long time Tawakoni veteran Capp Peace and his AOY partner Ronnie Manning took top honors with a five bass limit that weighed 22.95 pounds and included a kicker weighing 6.79. Big bass of the event went to the team of Danny and Zach Yates who brought a giant 9.79 bass to the scales.
