February 14, 2015

The Ray Hubbard Bass Club had our first tournament of the year Saturday February 14th at Lake Palestine. Despite being Valentines Day, we had a Club record 38 boats come out to a members only tournament! We had incredible weather to fish. Warm temperatures and fairly light winds greeted us. For most of us however, the lake reminded us it was still February and fished fairly tough. As always though, some people caught em.  Our 2013 AOYs are back together and starting where they left off; winning. The Father-Son team of Dennis and Damon Machost won going away with a hefty 5 fish limit of 21.86 pounds.  Another, Father-Son team, Justin and Jeff Garrett brought in an impressive 18.30 lbs to finish in second place.  Third place was garnered by Joe Ruiz and Paul Villareal with 13.29 lbs.  Preston Smith had the tournament big bass with a 9.21 lb toad.  There is a rumor floating around that an even larger fish was lost at the boat.  We can’t wait to hear that story at our next meeting Thursday, March 12th.  A huge thank you to everyone that came out and fished with us. Special thanks go to our Tournament Directors Vince Burt and Eric Vidal and his 80 year young Dad Bart for an incredible job getting registration and weigh in done smoothly with the large crowd we had. We would also like to thank Scott Martin and his crew at Lake Palestine Resort for being such gracious hosts!
