Ray Hubbard Bass Club - Lake Bonham
Launch: Bonham City Lake Recreation Area (Boat Permit Required)
Time: 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Saturday Mar 10, 2012

Lake Bonham - This may be a little lake but it provides some big fish. Most of the shoreline is ringed with cattails or scattered boat houses to provide cover for largemouth bass. There is a modest amount of standing timber and cut banks but probably some of the best cover is provided by the 1.5 miles of rip-rap along the dam.

Directions:

Bonham City Lake Recreation Area
Located on the south shore at the east end of the lake. Take FM 273 northeast of Bonham and turn east on Recreation Road 3

  4. Lake Bonham Tournament - Tom reminded everyone they need a current Lake Bonham sticker on their boat to fish. Exxon station opens @ 5:30 a.m. Launching at south main ramp - Confirmed launch ramp. Tournament times - Times nominated (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.)-14votes, (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.)-13 votes, and (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.)-7 votes. Tournament Time was approved for 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with registration starting at 6 a.m. and closing at 6:45 a.m. Tom Blackshear and Tony Schnurr have Tournament Director Duties - Jay Messersmith to handle weighing of fish.

  5. Tournament etiquette - Tom discussed etiquette during the tournament - communication between boaters is necessary when fishing same area. If boat is anchored (tied up to stump, anchor, or power poles) you must stay 25 yards away and if trolling motor is out of the water then it is a 50-yard distance.

  6. Lake Lewisville Tournament for April update - Exchanging of monies is not permitted on Army Corp. property so registration will be in the soccer field parking lot and after weigh-in pay outs will be in the same parking lot. Lake Lavon requires a permit but we do not know about registration and pay out issues, but Tom is going to find out that information.

  7. Championship Classic Lake selection suggestions - Lake suggestions where Lake Tyler, Richland Chambers, Sandlin (both days), Lake of the Pines, Hubbard Creek, Belton, Texoma, Murval, Holbrook/Quitman or Holbrook/Hawkins. Tom inquired about lodging for each lake. Through further discussion Tom suggested that each member who suggested a lake for the Championship to verify on lodging accommodations and reminded each of our Saturday night cook out and get together and that with our increased numbers of members that there will be an increased qualifying number for the Championship and we want to make sure we can all stay close together.

  8. Report on Brockdale Park Rock Throwing - Attendance Saturday, February 25th - Tom Brouillette, Jeff Cartwright, Robert Oleson, Vince Burt, Bob Keller, Shawn Garber, David Taylor, John Bruner, Dennis Machost, Damon Machost, and Cooper Adair (Damon's High school fishing partner). Tom asked Jeff Cartwright to report on this event- Jeff named off the members that where present. There was 50 yards of rip-rap rock that the crew moved to create two spawning areas in the pond along with repairing eroded areas at each end of concrete abutments on the dam. We had a good turn out for such short notice for this event.

  9. Community Event suggestion discussions - The Kids Fishing Derby is set for May 5, 2012. Other events to participate in are the High School Tournament on Ray Hubbard set for April 28, 2012 and the Lake Fork Classic 11th Annual Charity Big Bass Tournament benefitting Camp John Marc set for April 21, 2012 Hosted at Axton's Bass City.

  10. Financial Statement - Club -$3,000.00, Championship Fund -$805.00. Jeff Cartwright gave this report of funds on hand.

  11. Other Business open for discussion - Tom instructed Jeff Cartwright to research what it would take for the Club to become a Non-Profit Organization to be able to get a checking account. Jeff will provide this information at the next meeting.
